  • Opening statement from Kateman
    • Apologies from missing members
    • Walkthrough of tonights agenda
  • Andy Stiff had reported that LimKokWing? management reacted badly to us having ‘Hackers’ in the name when he discussed us with them. Members share this concern that ‘corporates’ and possibly the authorities will misunderstand the meaning of the word 'hacker’ and make wrong assumptions about the usage of the space. On the plus side, Hackerspace has cooler connotations, which is good for recruiting younger members.
  • Decision: To have an alternate name for registration and sponsorship purposes.
  • Suggestions for alternate names:
    • Whitespace
    • MakerspaceKL
    • WhiteNoise?
    • Innovation Space

ROS Registration Status

  • Brian stated registration was rejected because minute is not detailed enough. This doesn’t seem to be a valid enough reason to refuse registration.
  • Decision: Amin would handle the details about why the registration was rejected. Will ask about who can help us fill paperwork correctly.

Constitution

  • Shue’s concern on the constitution statement which is all work done by the space should be open source.
  • Decision: No such statement should be in the constitution. Members are free to do whatever they wish with their builds.
  • Addition to Constitution:
    • Equipment in HSKL should not be used for mass production.
    • Decision: Not to be in constitution but in house rules of space. Mass production can be approved by Governance committee on case-by-case basis.
    • Research into how other hackerspaces have handled this.
    • Decision: House rules to be drafted via google docs.
