HSKL House Rules
Safety
- Never work alone.
- Safety is the responsibility of every member and guest.
- All members and guests are required to use appropriate personal protective equipment.
- It is the responsibility of every member and guest to understand the safe use of any tool or equipment before using it, if you don't know how, always ask.
- Members must not allow unsafe practices by any guest.
- All accidents are to be reported to any senior/committee member as soon as possible and logged in the logbook.
- The main door should be locked at all time. The last person who leave the hackerspace has to ensure that all windows and door are properly locked, all electrical appliances are properly shut down, and arm the alarm system (when it’s in operation).
- Fire extinguishers should be located in strategic places like those flammable and high risk area. The committee should ensure that those fire extinguishers are functioning from time to time. All members are required to know to how to use fire extinguisher properly
Guests / Non-members
- Any member may host up to five guests in the space.
- Two members may host an unlimited number of guests.
- Guests are not allowed to use any equipments.
- In all cases, the member(s) hosting a guest are responsible for:
- Verifying that each guest has a signed waiver on file before they work on any project.
- Signing the log with each guest
- Making sure guests understand the guidelines under which we operate
- Ultimately, cleaning up after guests if they fail to do it themselves
- Guests (non-members) have no voting rights at our AGM and regular meetings
- Guests (non-members) are allowed to organize events at HSKL. Refer to EventHowTo
- Private tools or equipment may not be used by any member or guest without the permission of the owner.
- Private tools must be clearly labeled. Unlabeled tools or equipment may be assumed to be freely usable by any member or guest.
- Don't remove anything, including tools, from the space without explicit permission from the owner.
- If you're leaving something and you would rather it was not mercilessly ripped apart, please label it accordingly.
Housekeeping
- Everybody using the hackerspace is responsible for the equipment to stay in good shape. Using the restrooms or any other facilities entails cleaning after use.
- All material must be returned to its proper location after use.
- Projects should be stored in their proper location in between working sessions. (Exceptions can be granted on a case by case basis depending on the type of project)
- Workbenches should be completely clean when you leave - be considerate for the next user. Please put tools back where you found them.
- Members who wish to keep their belonging in hackerspace will have to acknowledge the fact that they are doing it at their own risk. Hackerspace will not and should not be liable if those belongings are lost or damaged.
- Members bringing dangerous tools such as weapons, high power laser, radioactive material or explosive material should declare them to the hackerspace committee.
- Some equipments which are expensive, will be governed by a special committee (to be determined).
- The committee will decide what equipments will fall into this category. The list will be revised from time to time.
- Members (and possibly non members as well) are required to request / book in advance for using those equipments.
- Members / non members are only allowed to use such equipment once they get approval (verbal or written?) from the said committee.
- If members / non members are using it for commercial gain, they need to discuss with the said committee on how the charges go.
- If members / non members are using it for extended hours (i.e. not on normal activities such as Electronics Friday), they are required to pay for electricity, consumables and any other relevant fee. This might be apply to personal commercial project. This should not apply to any project that is directly benefit to hackerspace.
Food and disposal of old food
- Everybody taking food and/or drinks to hackerspace is supposed to check regularly for their expiry dates and dispose of them, in case they're no longer consumable. You should check to dispose waste in an appropriate waste-bin and separate trash if possible!
- Be aware that some areas in the space prohibits food due to safety reasons.
Smoking
- HSKL is a strict non-smoking area including the stairwell. However, you can smoke downstairs outside the building.
Events and Workshop
Everything Else
- Boils down to basically common sense and "if you don't know, ask."
- Be excellent to each other.
