HSKL Etch Room Usage
General
- Non-members are strictly prohibited from using the etch room.
- You must have been instructed on the safe usage of the etch room before you can use it.
- Food and drinks are strictly prohibited due to safety reasons.
- Sign the log book (a dedicated Etch Room Log Book) before utilizing the etch room.
- If you are unsure about something, always ask a senior member. (Note: Write down those authorised names and phone number clearly and prominently.)
- Keep the space just as neat and clean as before you found it.
- Let a committee member know when equipment breaks or supplies finish.
- Sterilize all waste as necessary, and dispose of all waste properly.
- Remember YOU are responsible for yourself, the people in the room as well as the equipment in the room

Etch Room Safety Guide
- All accidents are to be reported to any senior/committee member as soon as possible.
- Always leave the room door open for ventilation
- Avoid working alone in the room.
- Use correct tools for your work. If you are unsure, always ask a senior member.
- Ferric Chloride stains anything it comes in contact with, it is also highly corrosive, be mindful when handling the solution.
- Rubber gloves should be worn when handling corrosive chemicals.
- When carrying tools, sharp edges should be pointed downwards.
- Be patient and do not rush.
- Avoid distractions.
- Don’t work on anything when you are angry or upset.
- Safety goggles or a face shield must be worn when using any equipment that expels debris (saws, routers, etc...)
- People who have nothing to do in the Etching Room are strictly prohibited from entering the room. They must not interfere with people who are working inside Etching Room.
Equipment
- Perform a visual inspection of the tool before using it looking for things like possible damage, missing or loose parts, or the previous user's materials
- Do not use an equipment if it is marked as damaged or appears to be damaged
- Damaged Equipment is to be reported to a senior/committee member as soon as possible
- Keep flammable and combustible items away from spark producing activities. Before using a grinder, look to see what is stored around that might respond to a spark. The same with welding or cutting.
- Know where the emergency button is on all tools
- Use of Equipment while intoxicated result in immediate expulsion of the member.
- Misuse of any Equipment is to be reported to an committee member as soon as possible

- We have a first aid kit on the top shelf of the rack next to the lockers.
